Replace Electrical Panel

Sparky Says: “Safety First, and Always.”

If your home was built before 1990, check out the brand name on your home electrical panel. If you discover that it’s a Zinsco or Federal Pacific Electric product, you have cause for concern and a great reason to contact Sparky.

Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) Circuit Breakers

FPE electrical panels were once all the rage. In fact, they enjoyed more than a 30-year run of popularity that began in the mid-1950’s – back when I Love Lucy captivated American TV audiences and your parents or grandparents got all dolled up for weekend sock hops.

But while I Love Lucy is still watchable and funny, FPE panels should be replaced at your first opportunity. They’re prone to malfunction and to start electrical fires. That makes them unsafe for your home and family. In fact, thousands of homeowners across the country have learned that lesson the hard way, including right here in Chicagoland.

Do you have an FPE electrical panel? If so, “Federal Pacific Electric” will be emblazoned on the door and elsewhere inside your breaker box. Then contact Excel Electrical Technologies so we can replace it with a safer and more reliable circuit breaker panel.

Zinsco Circuit Breakers

Zinsco electrical panels arrived later on the scene, first appearing in our area in the mid-1970’s. Even if your electrical panel bears the name GTE or Sylvania, it could still be a re-branded Zinsco product. And while not all GTE-Sylvania panels are defective, it’s still worth your time to have us make that determination for you.

Electrical panels manufactured by Zinsco are prone to melt to the main ‘bus bar’. That prevents the breaker from tripping even when there’s an electrical short or overloaded circuit. That, in turn, can cause wires to melt and trigger an electrical fire.

We’re not trying to frighten you – our goal is simply to help keep you safe while ensuring your family has all the power you need to run today’s advanced electronic equipment. Contact us today to schedule service.
